Providing Services to Adults at Camillus House and Health

December 6, 2015

As of December 2015, The Motivational Edge is providing Lyrical Expression classes and music instrument lessons to males and females between the ages of 22-40, receiving assistance from Camillus House and Health. This new program will provide a therapeutic approach with adults currently in a mental health treatment program, on-site at Camillus’ Norwegian Cruise Line campus.

Camillus House & Health provides humanitarian and health care services to men, women and children who are poor and homeless in Miami-Dade County.  As a ministry of the Hospitaller Brothers of St. John of God, Camillus was originally established to serve Cuban exiles.  From its humble beginning as a small soup kitchen, Camillus has grown into a full service organization offering a comprehensive “system of care” including food, clothing, emergency, transitional and permanent housing, physical and mental health care, and substance abuse treatment. Camillus also provides the intangible gift of hope by treating every individual with love, respect, and dignity.

‘Our therapeutic arts programming has made a dramatic impact in the lives of our teenagers, so it is a natural progression for ME to adapt its programming to address similar needs for an older population of participants.  It’s a slightly modified approach, yet we are still working in conjunction with therapists and psychologists to have similar outcomes– increased self-confidence and morale, more effective communication skills which helps build healthy relationships and helps with interview skills for job placement.’ Ian Welsch, CEO, The Motivational Edge
