Happy One Year Anniversary!

This summer, we celebrate the one year anniversary of The Motivational Edge and Irie Foundation partnership at the Irie Foundation – Allapattah Music and Literacy Center. The funding received from the foundation supports the ever-growing music, arts and academic based programming offered to the under-resourced youth in Allapattah and the surrounding areas of Brownsville and Liberty City. The Irie Foundation seeks to empower South Florida’s at-risk youth to lead productive lives through mentorship programs, cultural experiences and scholarship opportunities.

Motivating People
Heading to Berklee College of Music
Berklee College of Music has selected our very own Jose Hernandez as recipient of a Berklee City Music 2015 Summer Scholarship. This 5-week experience will allow Jose to learn from the world-class faculty at Berklee as well as from visiting artists. Jose, an aspiring rapper, writer and producer, will have the opportunity to study performance, theory, musicianship and ensemble playing in state-of-the-art facilities, culminating in an end-of-program blowout concert.
We are honored and proud to have Jose representing our organization and the community of Allapattah! Click here to read more.
ME Employee of the Month

Awarded our May Employee of the Month, Christian Medina Beltz provides mentorship for his teenagers inside the classroom along with exposing them to various community showcases at places such as Art Serve Open Mic where students can refine their performance skills. Recently, Christian hosted a talent show at Miami Jackson Senior High School where students had an opportunity to perform for family and friends.

This month, he was named Site Supervisor of our new program at iTECH, opening this summer. On a daily basis, he goes above and beyond to support the volunteers and staff at the Irie Foundation Allapattah Music and Literacy Center. We are very grateful for his dedication to our Mission and the youth we serve.

How & Where We Motivate
Therapeutic Arts for Teens at the Statewide Inpatient Psychiatric Program
The Motivational Edge has the humble privilege of working with Citrus Health Network, Inc., providing therapeutic arts programming to teens at the Statewide Inpatient Psychiatric Program in Pembroke Pines, FL. Our staff works with teens that are experiencing co-morbid diagnoses such as: Poly-Substance Dependence, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Depression, Anxiety and Bipolar Disorder. We work closely with Citrus staff to ensure that the fidelity and effectiveness of the programming is upheld; providing coping skills for youth, that will, hopefully prevent criminal and addictive thinking patterns in the future.”Our expressive arts programs use art and creativity to help youth connect to their problems, give voice to their emotions, and learn techniques (art, music, movement and poetry) that heal. Through the experience of our expressive arts programs, the youth’s individuality and self-esteem are supported and enhanced,” says Rudy Sablon, Director of Programs.

“The Motivational Edge team has been influential in a therapeutic way that even therapists have not been able to master.. As a doctor in Clinical Psychology, I have been trained for years on the most effective treatment plans to ensure motivation in youth. However, after witnessing the growth and development that has taken place in such a short notice with The Motivational Edge, our boys and girls have improved the ways in which they communicate and express themselves in the program” – Dr. LaTasha Russell

Student Testimonials
“They taught me how to express myself through music and how to draw graffiti and make it look better than what was drawing. They taught that music is more than music. But it is a way to express myself.” (Bear)

“I learned how to express myself through music. They are very nice people and they take their time out of their day to help children.” (Lil Fire)
