A Message From Jose Hernandez on his Experience at Berklee College of Music

July 22nd, 2015

Spending the summer at Berklee was the experience of a lifetime. I was taught music theory by the best professors they could offer, gaining more musical experience than I could have ever imagined.

Music theory was a focus of the curriculum throughout the 5 week program. I had a class on Musicianship as well as Theory in Performance which helped me better understand various music principles and fundamentals. For the most part it was very confusing because I felt like I was learning a whole new foreign language. On top of that, it was integrated with math which made it so much harder. But the more I practiced and studied the better I got and the more I understood.

This summer wasn’t all about just learning and living music, it was the perfect amount of classes filled with fun, and friendships that will  last a lifetime. Music brought us to Berklee and made us a family.

My summer was an experience that changed me for the better and helped me progress and excel at what I love most, Music.

Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey. I am eternally grateful and hope to continue making everyone, including family, friends and my community proud.’
