Our Audio Recording & Music Production program teaches students the fundamentals of beat-making, pre-production, and audio engineering, offering technology-focused musical experiences beyond the scope of a traditional arts curriculum. By providing real-world, hands-on experience with professional software and technology currently used in the field, this program prepares youth for college, an internship, or a career in the music industry. Students’ original works are often featured via our social media outlets and SoundCloud station.
Our comprehensive curriculum guides students through the many facets of becoming a DJ. Youth in this program will experience in-depth lessons ranging from the history of DJing as an art form, to navigating industry software, to developing an understanding of musical structure, beats, and genres. With over 20 years of combined experience, our Teaching Artists use DJing as a tool to enhance hand-eye coordination, technological proficiency, collaborative work habits, self-confidence, and career readiness.
We provide instruction for the following instruments at various settings, including our Irie Foundation Allapattah Music and Literacy Center, group homes, residential-treatment facilities, juvenile justice centers, partnering schools, organizations, etc.
This multidisciplinary program offers youth a rare and safe outlet for healing and growth through positive self-expression. Creative writing, songwriting, and Lyrical Expression exercises equip youth with tools for personal reflection and interpersonal communication, while expanding academic skills, such as, literacy and vocabulary, as well as creative thinking.
Additionally, youth have the opportunity to learn foundational elements of audio recording while working with our team of Teaching Artists to compose original songs based on their writings.
